INTERVIEW WITH FACE OF TONI&GUY 2017/18 WINNER HAMISH MCRAE
How did you learn about Face of TONI&GUY?
I first came across the competition when I received an email from TONI&GUY stating that I had made a finalist in becoming the Face of TONI&GUY. At first, I was sceptical that it was a scam because it came out of nowhere and later I found out that my friends had entered me and forgot to let me know.
What was Culture Shock 2.0 like as a Face of TONI&GUY finalist?
Culture Shock 2.0 was an incredibly overwhelming event, I had been filled in on some details, but it was so much bigger and more extravagant than I expected. Being catered to so well by stylists and organisers made me feel like royalty. The experiences and designs presented at Culture Shock were an excellent introduction to the bustling and thrilling lifestyle that TONI&GUY presents.
How did you feel when you won?
To be completely honest, it didn’t fully sink in until a few days after. Being on the stage as my name was announced I felt shocked but the overarching emotion was excitement. Once it had hit me, there was a solid week where I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.
What’s your experience been like so far?
Candice (Face of TONI&GUY winner in female category) and I have participated in so many unbelievable experiences which have opened countless doors to some incredible opportunities within the industry that I would never have been exposed to otherwise. Being a part of these experiences have allowed me to expand my knowledge and skill set by working with the talented creatives who are at the core of TONI&GUY.
What is TONI&GUY to you?
TONI&GUY is not only a hairdresser or haircare brand; it is a platform in which creatives can explore and experiment with trends and ideas to produce styles and products for the future. To me, TONI&GUY is a motivation to inspire others, using their incredible creative work and skill as a lens to do so.
